About Sacramento ACT
ACTion Hero: Diane Hollins Gunning
Diane Hollins Gunning Chairs the 2006 STAND TOGETHER Action with over 400 in attendance
Diane Hollins-Gunning was born and raised in Sacramento—Oak Park, to be exact. It’s no coincidence, then, that her church, founded by her family in 1976, sits in the heart of Oak Park. Diane proudly serves All Nations Church of God in Christ in its mission to be a strong resource for the area neighborhoods.
Diane is an alumni of Luther Burbank High School. She also graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a degree in Business in 1982. After a long spell in Los Angeles, she returned to Sacramento 4 years ago with her husband and two children, 10 year-old Mark and 5 year-old Matthew.
Diane fell quite naturally into a leadership role around ACT’s campaign for youth success. Her commitment to helping youth find summer jobs is rooted in her own life experience. As a youth, she remembers working along side Sacramento’s current Vice Mayor, Rob Fong, at Liberty House as a sales clerk. She then served as a student intern in the state’s Employment Development Department. She stayed with that agency for the next 9 years as a programmer and information processor.
She finds collaborating with ACT to be a rewarding experience that enriches her church’s ministry. “This youth jobs work has really energized our youth and their families/parents. They feel like they matter, that they can make a difference.” ACT can certainly echo those sentiments; Diane’s leadership and passion—and her congregation’s prophetic voice—have certainly enriched our organization and our mission.
